About 3-CIP

3-CIP is an interregional co-operation project under the European Community Initiative INTERREG III C.

3-CIP supports the development of a joint economic region by the German federal states of Saxony and Brandenburg, the Czech regions of Liberec, Ústí and Karlovy Vary as well as the Polish Voivodeships of Wielkopolska, Dolnośląskie and Lubuskie.

The acronym “3-CIP” was deliberately chosen for its similarity to the word “zip” for bringing something together.

Total budget: 975,612 EUR
ERDF contribution: 731,709 EUR
Duration: January 2004 - June 2006
Lead partner: Saxony Economic Development Corporation

INTERREG IIIC is an EU-funded programme that helps Europe’s regions form partnerships to work together on common projects.

INTERREG IIIC projects enable regions to share knowledge and experience that will help them develop new solutions to economic, social and environmental challenges.

INTERREG IIIC projects are designed to reduce the development gap between rich and poor areas of Europe and help regions become more competitive.

Project Targets and Target Groups

3-CIP was developed as a contribution to the economic development of the border triangle between Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic.

Target groups were small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) in the following core branches:

  • Automotive
  • Mechanical Engineering / Metal processing
  • Energy / Environment
  • Chemical Industry / Plastics
  • Enabling Technologies / Microelectronics
  • Textiles
  • Glass / Ceramics / Jewellery
  • Food and Beverages
  • Building Materials

Existing links between companies and business networks have been reinforced and intensified. Gained experience has been generalized and used for new networks and clusters.

Approaches for supporting regional economic competencies and prospective technology clusters by interregional co-operation have been worked out.

A further target was the assessment and identification of best practice solutions that have potentials for generalisation in the joint economic region.
